Smart Energy Grant

Question 1: What is the SMART Energy Grant?

Answer: The SMART Energy grant is a facility the NHT will make available to Public Sector Pensioners who meet certain criteria. The grant must be used to install solar panel energy saving systems on the pensioner’s home.

 

Question 2: What are the eligible criteria to access the SMART Energy Grant?

Answer: To access the SMART Energy Grant, you must satisfy the following criteria:

  • A retired Public Sector Pensioner who at the time of retirement was earning less than

$30,000.99 weekly;

  • Must be a homeowner (this includes owners of non-NHT constructed or mortgaged properties);
  • Must be 60 years or older;
  • Must not have already installed similar systems (conditions apply).

 

Question 3: How much is the Smart Energy Grant?

Answer: The SMART Energy Grant is for a maximum of $1.5 million per beneficiary.

 

Question 4: How many SMART Energy Grants are available?

Answer: The NHT will make available a total of 420 grants per year. Thirty beneficiaries will be selected per parish.

 

Question 5: How do I apply for a SMART Energy Grant?

Answer: Interested persons will be advised on how to apply.

 

Question 6: How will beneficiaries be selected?

Answer: In addition to meeting the criteria, beneficiaries will be selected following site visits and case reports conducted by the NHT’s Social Development Team.

 

Question 7: I already accessed a loan from the NHT; can I still get a SMART Energy Grant?

Answer: Yes. You may still access a SMART Energy Grant if you have already accessed any NHT loan facility. This includes Open Market, Scheme, 10 Plus or Home Improvement loans.

 

Question 8: How will the grant be disbursed?

Answer:  The grant will be disbursed in two tranches.  The second tranche will  be  disbursed following a site visit.

 

Question 9: Can the grant be used to install air condition systems?

Answer: No. The grant should only be used for installing solar panel energy saving system.

 

Question 10: Can this benefit be accessed by previous home grant recipients?

Answer: Yes. You will be able to access this grant once you are a government pensioner earning less than $30,000.99 at the time of retirement.

 

Question 11. Will the pensioner be able to access this grant after having received their total refunds or contributions?

Answer: Yes. You will be able to do so.
